The Role of the Official Languages of Timor-Leste in Scientific Research for Development and Innovation in the Country

Abstract

This article analyses the role of the official languages, Tetum and Portuguese, in the scientific research promoted by the National Institute for Science and Technology of Timor-Leste (INCT). In the first moment, a reflection will be developed on the importance of the official languages of Timor-Leste concerning science and scientific research practised in the country and the main obstacles to the development of these languages. In a second moment, it was sought to situate the scientific research that was carried out between the years 2020 and 2022, with recourse to funding from the National Institute of Science and Technology of Timor-Leste (INCT), taking into account the languages used.
