Abstract

This article aims to present the context of teaching and learning the Portuguese language in the National Parliament of Timor-Leste, during the period between October 2018 and June 2022. Bearing in mind the specific context of Timor-Leste regarding the Portuguese language, this article begins with the linguistic framework of the country. Then, the promotion of Portuguese in and by the National Parliament is discussed. Finally, it reflects on the teaching of Portuguese in the National Parliament, focusing on the specificities of the General Course of Portuguese Language and the Intensive Courses of Applied Portuguese Language, taking into account the target audience and the fact that learning takes place in a specific professional context. Finally, considering the parliamentary context in which the entire teaching and learning process takes place, the methodologies and strategies adopted are discussed.
