This study has been revised from the article initially published in 2015, to demystify the hidden agenda behind the Orthographic Agreement of the Portuguese Language. By analysing the political documents that underpin the Agreement under scrutiny, the study reveals that the alleged ‘Agreement’ is a manipulative political process and not an orthographic reform for all the countries that make up the CPLP. The purpose of this study is to continue to uncover and demystify the political agenda that the text of the agreement keeps unrevealed, a situation that the academies in African countries whose official language is Portuguese did not seem to pay attention to, nor did those in Portugal, which politically allowed itself to be manipulated by the political rhetoric of Brazil(eiro).
